Three Tips to Heighten Potential

I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if we will only tune in. ~George Washington Carver

The world around us has so much to say about our potential to our benefit; however, are you tuning in?  We get busy with our schedules, plans and to-do lists, and then never look up.  There is potential all around us.  Are you making the most of that potential?

My daughter is fascinated by the stars, and she has recently been inspiring me to look up literally.  It was a clear and warm evening, and she encouraged me to go outside.  As I was sitting on the steps of our front porch looking up at the stars, I was reminded about the following aspects of potential.

Potential Is Vast and Powerful

When you look up at the stars, you can contemplate the enormity of the universe.  You can see stars and planets that are thousands of miles away.  We also know that there are galaxies even beyond what we can see.  It reminds me of this verse from the Bible:

“He determines the number of the stars; He gives to all of them their names.  Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; His understanding is beyond measure.” – Psalms 147:4-5 (ESV)

The potential around us is vast and beyond our comprehension.  We are filled with awe.  It heightens our perspective and can encourage us towards humility and hope.  Do you need to readjust your perspective?

Potential Is Interconnected with Value and Significance

Just as the night gives perspective to me, I have also found that the morning speaks to me about potential.  When I look at the stars, I can feel very small in the midst of the awe around me.  In the mornings, I have noticed that I am awakened to the sounds of birds as the sun rises.  Birds are very small creatures, yet they too have significance.  Another verse in the Bible says:

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?  And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.  But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.  Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”  – Matthew 10:29-31 (ESV)

You have value and significance!  The universe is vast, yet all of creation speaks to us of value and significance.  Much potential comes from that value deep within you.  Do you need to remind yourself of your value and significance?

Potential Is in People

You have a purpose and potential that flows when you act in alignment with that purpose.  Just as the world can speak to us, as we listen and steward what is given to us, we can also impact the world around us through our potential.  Do you know your purpose?  Are you living each day being a steward of your potential?

Every person you see also has purpose and potential.  The definition of a leader is someone who influences and empowers others.  Are you stewarding others to make the most of their potential?

In summary, please reflect on the following:

  • Potential is vast.
    • You do have significance.
      • People are a conduit to release potential.
        • How will you make the most of it?
